Erard Concert Gothic Harp

Ethelwyn playing her Erard Concert Gothic harp

Ethelwyn Kent, the owner of Raglan B&B is an accomplished harpist. Ethelwyn’s harp is an Erard Concert Gothic harp, c 1850. It has 13 Rue Mail, Paris. No. 2847 written on it with a gold grapevine twisted around the column. Sebastian Erard was the harp maker in Paris who designed the double action system for the harp which is found with minor variations in all modern harps.

The harp pictured was purchased from the estate of a lady who was a harpist in the Queensland Symphony Orchestra.

The harp is such a stunning instrument, lightly strung with a delicate sound and therefore perfect for background music.
